Let’s Talk: Media Interviews

Do the words “media interview” send you running for cover? Have you ever been interviewed by a reporter and afterward said: “Never again”? Do you just wish you understood more about the skills necessary to perform well in an on-camera interview?
Media interviews do not have to be this difficult.

This highly interactive team-taught workshop is led by veteran broadcast news executive Marcy McGinnis. In it you will learn how to prepare for a media interview, develop skills and strategies to deliver your messages clearly and concisely, and give you the opportunity to practice those skills in a supportive environment. You’ll get camera ready!

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:

Understand the role of the reporter and the audience the reporter represents
Acquire a set of skills and best practices including how to prepare for an interview, how to answer questions while maintaining control of the interview, and how to frame your message to match the interests and values of the audience you are trying to reach
Learn to avoid common mistakes and pitfalls and build your self-confidence
Practice crafting and delivering key points using verbal and non-verbal techniques
Perform simulated 3-minute live interviews followed by instructor and peer critiques

Workshop Structure

Our workshops are very interactive, and we value as much individual time with our participants as possible so we keep our instructor-to-participant ratio small, particularly with virtual workshops. But we understand there are many things to consider when planning a workshop and we will work with groups to customize workshop sizes, hours, and number of instructors to meet your needs.
